Clean Desk is designed to help computer users who are constantly switching between screen resolutions. As we all know the Mac OS isn't perfect at icon positions when it comes to different resolutions so this is where Clean Desk comes into play.
System Requirements
MacOS 8 thru MacOS 9
3672k free Memory
780k free Disk space
Control Strip Extension (to use the Clean Desk control strip)
AppleScript
Installing Clean Desk
Copy Clean Desk to your hard drive (if you received Clean Desk on CD or floppy somehow)
Drag "Clean Desk CSM" to the Control Strip while it is open. You can copy it to the "Control Strip Modules" folder
yourself, but dragging it to the Control Strip does it for you and you don't need to restart.
### IMPORTANT ### You CANNOT rename the included control strip module ("Clean Desk CSM"). Doing so would
result in it simply not working. Don't ask why because it's kind of a long story, but please don't rename the control
strip module.
Using Clean Desk
Remembering and Restoring
When all of the icons on your desktop are in specific locations and you would like them to remain that way, simply make Clean Desk remember your files' positions by clicking "Remember Positons" or selecting it in the File menu. You can also drag & drop all the files on your desktop into Clean Desk (after clearing the list by selecting "Delete All" from the File menu) and their current positions will be remembered.
Then whenever you switch between resolutions or accidently "Clean Up" your desktop you can have Clean Desk restore the position of your icons by clicking "Restore Positions" or selecting it from the File menu.
